What is a “pinpoint cite”? What is a “jump cite”?

A pinpoint cite (also known as a “pinpoint citation” or a “jump cite”) is a citation to a specific page of an appellate opinion (as opposed to merely a citation to the first page of the opinion). For example, 6 S.W.3d 7, 8 would be a citation to an opinion which is located in volume 6 of the third series of South Western Reporters beginning at page 7 and would specifically be a reference to something on page 8 (i.e., the second page of the opinion, which begins on page 7).
